AI-Supported Fruit Tree Pruning
Plant pruning is a demanding, critical, and expensive task in fruit growing that is often performed by experts or the fruit growers themselves, as mistakes affect the perennial crop in the long term. However, since skilled workers and time are lacking, 'AI Pruning' aims to help overcome these bottlenecks.
With 'AI Pruning', untrained workers can perform pruning professionally and quickly. A smartphone is used - which can be extended with smart glasses - that analyzes the plants and displays precise instructions for pruning directly. This can close a significant innovation gap between technology and practice.
Current News
In mid-September, a Galileo TV crew accompanied our project partner at Laimburg for a segment on the future of apple cultivation. The focus was on the premiere of our tracking pipeline for processed trees.
The segment shows the digital capture of a potted tree on-site on-site, provides insights into the software-based data processing, and demonstrates live tracking along with real-time visualization of our calculated cuts.
The segment is scheduled to air at the end of the year. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Galileo team for the exciting opportunity to present our project.
